Udall Park is the perfect site for a botanical experience that is unique throughout the seasons, providing an ever-changing landscape.

Sports and activity areas are organized seasonally and connected by a central botanical garden. Areas are more accessible by walking and biking paths along with more parking areas throughout the park.

SITE ANALYSIS

Udall Park is located in East Tucson and is conveniently located on East Tanque Verde Road, which is used to access Mt. Lemmon and surrounding areas. It is also easily accessible from a variety of private schools nearby.

The site spans approximately 172 acres, qualifying as a metropolitan park. With a metropolitan population of over 1 million, along with at least 50,000 students and faculty at the University of Arizona, according to the Udall Master Plan (2010)

It is also important to note the recycling and landfill centers directly south of the site. They are currently separated by a chain link fence.

The current design technically fulfills many of the community needs outlined in the Udall Master Plan (2010), but as they are so heavily used, it is presumable that more facilities would be used as well.

TIME-BASED CONTEXT DIAGRAM

This streamgraph displays groups of plants according to their flowering periods in Tucson. In the spring, mesquite, prickly pear, and saguaro bloom to create a desert oasis, followed by agave and senna in the summer. In the fall, colorful shrubs, including ruellia and muhly, light up the park, before the agave and mesquite begin to flower in the winter.
